Remodelling work on the interior paved spaces and perimeter pavement of the Alfonso X el Sabio University (Villanueva de la Cañada campus – Madrid) with new connections between buildings and pedestrian walkways with improved accessibility.

The Alfonso X el Sabio University is a private institution with more than 30 years of experience that has established itself as a national benchmark thanks to its broad academic offer. 
 
The aim of this project was to improve the exterior paving of the central area of the campus, including the perimeter pavement, and to improve accessibility to the different areas of the campus.
 
The works will create new useful areas on campus such as grandstands and meeting spaces and improve the physical and visual connections between the different buildings.
The following noteworthy work was carried out:
 
• Improved paved spaces that allow for optimal pedestrian movement.
• New connections to create an accessible route around the whole campus. 
• Removal of architectural barriers. 
• Upgrade and reorganisation of the campus staircases.
• Improvements to the outdoor communal seating areas.
• Adaptation and improvement of water collection facilities.

Technical data

Demolition and structure
· 3,700 m² demolition of pavements.
· 685 m² asphalt demolition.
· 2,165 m² demolition of road surfaces.
· 552 m² demolition of road surfaces with recovery.
· 630 ml demolition of gutters and gratings.
· 1,128 m³ land refilling.
· 2,538 m² HA25 concrete slabs.
· 49.50 m³ HA25 reinforced concrete wall.

Paving and paint
· 3,813 ml concrete kerbstone. 
· 2,200 m² granite slabs.
· 3,183 m² continuous concrete paving + painting.
· 5,315 m² AC-16 wearing course.
· 529 m² paving on tree pits with gravel and resin.
· 604 ml prefabricated steps.
· 4,864 m² painting on smooth asphalt and 4,150 m² printing and painting on asphalt.
· 11,790 m² printed concrete painting.

Equipment and facilities
· 149 ml of concrete bench.
· 130 prefabricated benches without backrests.
· 31 spherical concrete bollards.
· 80 galvanised steel bicycle racks.
· 168 ml of metal handrail on ramps and 121 ml on stairs.
· CCTV.

· 262 m³ of topsoil.
· 381 ml of 15 cm surface drainage channel.
· 322 ml of 30 cm surface drainage channel.
· Five sump boxes.
