Installation of new pedestrian and bicycle routes for the creation of a Low Emission Zone on two avenues in Lleida

A Low Emission Zone (LEZ) requiring an urban planning intervention has been established in the area of Rambla Aragón at Plaza Cataluña at its junction with Calle Juan Baiget and Prat de la Riba between the junction of Alcalde Porqueres and Príncipe de Viana in the city of Lleida. 

The project is part of Intervention 2 – P6_L2-20210928-1. New services will be created and existing ones will be improved with the adaptation of a cycle lane and the widening of the pavement. In addition, the paving and landscaping elements will be renewed. 

The work is taking place in an urban environment with open vehicle and pedestrian traffic. 

In an initial phase, existing pavements and roads are demolished by partial traffic diversions, new services are built, existing services are repaired and replaced, and paving is carried out using pre-cast concrete (kerbs, gutters, cobblestones and hydraulic tiles to make the paths for the blind) combined with resin and aggregate-based finishes. For the latter, use is made of the Calcel Rob system and landscaping elements (both trees and shrubs). 

The main feature of this project is that it is a rainwater collection system, as the outer paving is made up of draining cobblestones and the Calcel Rob system. Another important feature is that all waste, both concrete and rubble from demolitions, is crushed and reused.
