Section V, Segarra-Garrigues Canal

Tender awarded for execution of works on Section V of the Segarra-Garrigues Canal within a period of 34 months to the Joint Venture formed by Acsa Obras e Infraestructuras, Acciona, and Rubau.

The infrastructure routing, 22.2 km in length, runs through the municipalities of Maldà, Arbeca, Els Omellons, La Floresta, Borges Blanques and Cervià de les Garrigues, before its outfall into the Albagès reservoir in the province of Lleida.

This section of the canal has a transport capacity of 15 m³/s, helping to fill the Albagès reservoir, particularly in times of high water levels, when the Rialb reservoir produces surplus discharges.

Significant original work

2 irrigation abstraction points: Supplying Sectors 8 and 9 with flow rates of 3.7 and 3.0 m³/s, respectively.

3 aqueducts: El Rocallamp (171 m); Els Omellons (491 m) and that of the AP-2 toll motorway (81 m). The first two are of the closed trapezoidal box type, in pre-stressed reinforced concrete, whilst the third is of the closed twin-cell trapezoidal section type, also in pre-stressed reinforced concrete.

2 syphon systems: L´Esperiguera (806 m) and L´Aiguamoll (1,313 m); 2,400 mm-diameter parallel pipes in reinforced concrete with steel covering.

 

2 tunnels: La Serrania (378 m) and Els Bessons (4,921 m): The former is of the horseshoe cross-section type dug by convectional means; the latter, with a circular cross-section, was bored with a 3.9 m-diameter TMB tunnelling machine.

1 underground pipe jacking: to cross under the high-speed rail line.
