Sorigué Continues Work on the Transformation of Córdoba’s Northern Ring Road
After completing the urban expressway linking Parque de la Asomadilla to the C-31 motorway, Sorigué is pressing ahead with the expansion of this vital infrastructure in the province to improve regional traffic flow.
Sorigué is now handling the construction of the first phase of the expansion of Córdoba’s Northern Ring Road (Ronda Norte), one of the most anticipated projects in the province.
The contract, awarded by the Andalusian Regional Government to a joint venture (UTE) between Sorigué and Azvi, is valued at €29.6 million and has a 36-month execution period, starting in autumn 2025.
For the past four years, the only section of the municipal Northern Ring Road open to traffic has been the stretch connecting the N-432 and C-31 to Asomadilla. In fact, the conversion of this road into an urban ring road was a project carried out by Sorigué and received an award from the governing board of the Andalusia, Ceuta, and Melilla branch of the Spanish College of Civil Engineers (CICCP) as the “Best Local Engineering Project in Andalusia.”
First regional section
This new contract covers a regional stretch that will run north of Avenida de la Arruzafilla, between the Académica García Moreno and Santa Beatriz roundabouts.
The works focus on three key areas: the María de Maeztu roundabout on the Western Ring Road, the northern strip parallel to Avenida de la Arruzafilla, and the intersection between Avenida del Brillante and Avenida de la Arruzafilla.
The remodelling of the María de Maeztu roundabout involves placing the A-3050 road in an underpass beneath a new, larger-radius roundabout. The parallel strip along Avenida de la Arruzafilla will be built on existing vacant land and will feature two lanes in each direction. At the junction with Avenida del Brillante, the existing roundabout will be upgraded to include three lanes.
The current avenue will be converted into an access road with parking areas. In addition, a pavement, bike lane, and landscaped area will be created between the access road and the Northern Ring Road to turn it into a much more pedestrian-friendly space.
Complementary works include protective fencing along the left margin of the Northern Ring Road and the inner side of the Western Ring Road bike lane, as well as the installation of traffic light and lighting systems.
With the addition of extra lanes and the reorganisation of intersections, traffic in traditionally congested areas will flow much more smoothly, reducing travel times for both public and private transport.
Presence in Cordoba
Sorigué has had a presence in Andalusia for over 50 years, where it has carried out major projects.
Currently in the province of Córdoba, Sorigué is working in a joint venture with Magtel Operaciones to complete the outpatient building of the Reina Sofía Hospital’s maternal and child area, a 10,000 m² project.
Separately, in partnership with Sepisur XXI, the company has recently delivered the urban development works for what will become the Spanish Army’s Logistics Base in Córdoba – one of the most innovative large-scale military complexes in Spain.
