Sorigué certified in BIM Methodology for road and infrastructure maintenance
For the first time, a maintenance service has obtained the UNE-EN 19650 certification in Building Information Modelling (BIM), a methodology primarily focused on the construction sector.
Sorigué’s business unit for the conservation, maintenance, and operation of urban and road infrastructure has been certified under the UNE-EN ISO 19650-1:2019 and UNE-EN ISO 19650-3:2020 standards for the BIM system. This is a significant milestone for the organization, as Building Information Modelling (BIM) is a collaborative work system more commonly used in building construction projects.
Through its company Sorigué Acsa Conservación de Infraestructuras, Sorigué has demonstrated its efficiency in maintenance services and has pioneered the use of BIM modelling in road and motorway projects in Spain.
The repair of a 450-metre road section between Centelles and Seva in the Osona region of Barcelona was the first project in the country to utilize this methodology. Another road maintenance project managed using the BIM system was the replacement of half the deck of the bridge located at PK 4+100 on the LV-9225 in the municipality of Albesa, Lleida.
How BIM works
By facilitating the management of large volumes of information, BIM helps visualize and coordinate all stages of a road maintenance contract.
The system creates a shared environment for geometric, environmental, time, and cost data, among others, centralizing digitalized infrastructure and its components. This allows all parties involved in a maintenance contract to access the project’s digital file, improving service management and organization, facilitating action planning, and supporting decisions that ensure user safety.
The group aims to gradually implement BIM modelling across various areas of road maintenance.
For over 25 years, Sorigué has been a leader in the maintenance and operation of road infrastructure and a specialist in winter road maintenance. The company currently has conservation contracts in Andalusia, Catalonia, Aragon and Castile and León. Among its recent projects, notable examples include the maintenance of the Eix Transversal (C-25) in Catalonia, the A-2 motorway connecting Lleida to Barcelona, a section of the Aragon Regional Road Network, the maintenance of roads in the province of Soria, and roads in the southern zone of Málaga and the eastern zone of Córdoba, among others.
