Four Catalan companies undertake the comprehensive maintenance of the 428 kilometres of the Eix Transversal
On 1 January 2023, the Catalan Government resumed direct management of the Eix Transversal, recognizing the complexity of maintaining this 153-kilometre road axis between Cervera and Caldes de Malavella. This is one of the largest road maintenance contracts in Catalonia, covering a total equivalent length of 428 km, including 25 double tunnels and 179 structures. For management, the joint venture will operate a control centre in Gurb and a subcentre in Calaf.
The Eix Transversal is a vital artery for mobility and economic development in Catalonia, with daily traffic of 16,000 vehicles, 23% of which are heavy vehicles and freight transport.
To achieve this, the joint venture has organized a team of 52 professionals (7 technicians, 15 control room and systems operators, 20 road maintenance workers, and 10 round-the-clock surveillance staff) to ensure the highest level of quality and rigour, fulfilling the commitments made and guaranteeing the maintenance and safety of this essential route for passenger and freight transport in Catalonia.
