The emblematic La Boqueria market in Barcelona is undergoing a careful renovation of the pavement in all its aisles with materials that offer greater safety for traffic and facilitate maintenance work.

The project is being carried out in two phases: north and south. In each case, one half of the market is closed so that the other half can remain open to the public.

A total of 3,920 m2 of surface area will be renovated, divided into two areas of 1,989 m2. Each work area is fully protected and cordoned off to avoid noise and dust pollution.

The work begins with the milling and demolition of the existing asphalt pavement over the entire surface of the market.

The concrete pavements, mortar with resins and pre-cast concrete coverings around the stands are also removed.

Once these materials have been removed, a single asphalt pavement is applied over the entire surface without modifying the existing base. For this work, a 4 cm thick pavement of AC-22 SURF PMB 45-80/65 hot bituminous mix is used.

High-strength Firflex resin with anti-slip and fuel-resistant properties is applied on top of this mixture, which, together with the improvements in the surface planimetry, contribute to greater pedestrian safety. The resin is then coated with 1/3 mm aggregate with a natural stone finish, the composition of which facilitates cleaning.
