Kilometre 129+080 of the C-53 road in Lleida had a history of multiple traffic accidents, prompting the construction of a roundabout to help optimise traffic flow and regulate the intersection with the LV-3028 and LV-3344 roads, near the municipality of Castellserà. 

The roundabout’s configuration accommodates the future implementation of the 2+1 road model planned by the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility. 

This is a three-lane configuration on a single platform, where the central lane alternates periodically between one direction of traffic and the other. 

This intermediate solution between a conventional road and a dual carriageway facilitates traffic flow and prevents congestion. 

Sustainable lighting 

The roundabout features a vertical wind turbine at its centre. This device stores energy to power the lighting in the event that its own battery is depleted. 

The system consists of 18 autonomous streetlights, four of which are hybrid, powered by a battery that operates via a solar PV panel. 

The work included the replacement of affected services, earthworks, laying the subgrade layer and lighting conduits. 

​Following the interior and exterior asphalting of the roundabout’s rings, horizontal and vertical signage was installed, along with a metal safety barrier.
