Sorigué supplies ballast for the renewal of the railway line between Buñol and Utiel
The aggregate will be extracted from our quarry in Tarragona and, due to its physicochemical characteristics, is ideal for railway infrastructures.
Sorigué contributes to the improvement works of the C3 commuter railway line of Valencia in the Buñol–Utiel section through the supply of 93,000 tonnes of type 1 ballast. The works are part of the Commuter Rail Plan of the Valencian Community, promoted by Adif, to increase the reliability of the infrastructures, standardise rails and sleepers, and provide greater robustness to the installations.
The section consists of 45.6 km of railway track in whose renewal Adif invests more than 84 million euros from the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, financed by the European Union. Sorigué is responsible for the supply of ballast for the first lot, for preparing the storage areas, and for carrying out distribution along the entire section of the works.
La Alforja ballast quarry
The La Alforja quarry is an open-pit mining operation that covers an approximate surface of 26 hectares. It is located very close to the municipality of Alforja, Tarragona, a strategic point for the distribution of aggregates in Catalonia, the Balearic Islands, the Valencian Community and Aragon.
Sorigué’s ballast quarry holds the Adif Quality Distinction, which accredits it as a contractor, and the Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), which certifies its performance in accordance with international ISO and UNE standards in different categories.
Due to their physicochemical characteristics, the aggregates extracted from this operation are ideal for the execution of wearing courses on high-performance roads and for the construction of railway infrastructures. In addition to ballast, this facility produces chippings, sands and granular sub-bases through fully automated processes.
The extensive catalogue of aggregates produced by Sorigué includes products suitable for the manufacture of concretes, mortars, asphalts and granular layers used in the execution of large-scale works such as lines 9 and 10 of the Barcelona metro, the longest in Europe, or section II of the new railway access to the southern dock of the Port of Castellón.
