Sorigué carries out the renovation works of the Plaza Mayor in Titulcia, Madrid

September 25, 2024

The works achieve a much more accessible surface and highlight the municipality’s Romanesque past.

The Plaza Mayor of the town of Titulcia, Madrid regains its original appearance and improves its accessibility thanks to Sorigué’s intervention. The project forms part of the Strategic Plan of the Regional Ministry of Housing, Transport and Infrastructure of the Community of Madrid to refurbish 18 historic centres, enhancing their historical, cultural and heritage value.

The most visible feature of this project is the cross-shaped mosaic that runs across the entire surface, with an interlacing pattern of olive branches in black and white. This decorative detail enhances the Romanesque and Carpetani past of the municipality, whose archaeological site is considered an Asset of Common Interest.

In addition to the paving works, the Sorigué team has repositioned the existing street furniture, increased the energy efficiency of the square and improved the balconies of the Town Hall.

Barrier-free square

One of the most important challenges of this project has been to achieve full accessibility, without barriers; to this end, it has been necessary to level the square with the current perimeter. Thus, by creating a steeper slope in the northern half and a gentler one at its intersection with Calle Grande, the pavement and the central area have been fully integrated into a single surface.

For the finishes, different types of materials have been used: Colmenar limestone for the kerbs, rounded aggregate and mortar for the central figure, and prefabricated paving stones in a limestone tone.

Sorigué in Madrid

Over the last 40 years, Sorigué has strengthened its position in Madrid through framework agreements for the refurbishment of squares, streets and parks, as well as for the improvement of sports, cultural and governmental facilities. The renovation of the Casa de Vacas Cultural Centre in Retiro Park and the refurbishment works at the La Concepción Municipal Sports Centre are good examples of this work.

Among its most recent activities are the comprehensive maintenance services for the Matadero complex, the IFEMA facilities and the buildings of the Senate of Spain. In addition, the group is responsible for the maintenance of green infrastructure in the cities of Parla and San Martín de la Vega, and carries out various contracts with Canal de Isabel II for the management of services and works related to the water cycle.
