Sorigué renews the pavement of Plaça de Tetuan and Rambla de Catalunya in Barcelona with efficient asphalt

September 3, 2024

The Asphalt team has worked with highly efficient bituminous mixtures whose manufacturing processes reduce CO₂ emissions and make use of recycled materials.

Sorigué renewed the pavement of Rambla de Catalunya and Plaça de Tetuán in the summer of 2024 within the framework of the Comprehensive Maintenance Plan of the city of Barcelona undertaken by the City Council.

For these works, bituminous mixtures were used whose formulation and manufacturing systems are environmentally sustainable and resistant to the demands of use of these roads.

The company BIMSA, Barcelona d'Infraestructures Municipals, linked to the Area of Ecology, Urbanism and Mobility of the Barcelona City Council, commissioned this work to Sorigué because the asphalt in these areas showed significant deterioration associated with its age. In addition to surface irregularities, loss of structure and rutting, there was the poor condition of external elements such as covers, tree pits, drainage grates and gutters, which required urgent repairs.

For this intervention, Sorigué proposed warm-mix bituminous mixtures produced at a temperature of 40ºC, well below the standard, which significantly reduces CO₂ emissions. The asphalt incorporates 0.5% recycled plastic from bags, a factor that contributes both to waste recovery and to the reduction of the use of natural resources. These characteristics, together with the quality of the product, guarantee maximum comfort and safety in vehicular driving.

A national benchmark in asphalt

With seven decades of experience in the manufacturing and laying of asphalt, Sorigué has led countless projects.
One of its most recent works in the city of Barcelona has been the paving of the Barceloneta seafront promenade and several areas of Port Vell, key spaces for the gathering of teams and followers of the 37th
America’s Cup.

This year, major works have also been undertaken such as the asphalt paving of the MotorLand Aragón circuit to comply with the quality and safety standards established by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), as well as the renovation of the pavement of La Boquería market in Barcelona.

A corporate milestone to highlight is the acquisition of 50% of the shares of the company Bitum Asfaltos e Infraestructuras, which operates in Andalusia, allowing Sorigué to have its own resources and strengthen its presence in the region where it has been operating for more than 50 years.
