Sorigué Improves the Surface of Barcelona’s Ronda Litoral
In a record time of 25 hours during Holy Week, 37,000 m² were paved between the Poblenou tunnels and the Port of Barcelona.
The Asphalt team from Sorigué’s Infrastructure and Materials division has renewed the surface of a section of Barcelona’s Ronda Litoral B-10 in a project that posed a significant challenge in terms of efficiency and operability.
Between Thursday and Friday of Holy Week, dates with heavy traffic, the works were completed in just 25 hours, causing minimal impact and inconvenience to the public.
A total of 37,625.46 m² were paved between the tunnels leading to the Poblenou neighbourhood and the Port of Barcelona, in the area known as Morrot. For this project, a conventional hot mix was applied along the Ronda Litoral in the Llobregat direction, covering the Vila Olímpica, Pla de Palau, Moll de la Fusta, Colón, and Port of Barcelona tunnels.
Efficiency and sustainability
A leader in the infrastructure and construction materials sector, Sorigué boasts 70 years of experience in the production and application of all types of bituminous mixes, with eight production plants, one mobile plant, and a cold recycling train.
Sorigué is a pioneer in developing and applying sustainable techniques, such as in-situ pavement rehabilitation, using a homogeneous mix of material from milled existing pavement, bituminous emulsion, water, and, in some cases, additives like recycled plastic. This process, carried out at ambient temperature in a single operation, reduces CO₂ emissions by 45%.
Additionally, through its Calcel brand, the company designs, manufactures, and distributes its own cold repair products, asphalt mixes, and permeable soils that are easy to apply.
Among its most recent paving projects are the rehabilitation of the C-45 road in Lleida with recycled asphalt, the maintenance of 99 roads in northern Girona, the paving of the MotorLand Aragón speed circuit, and the sustainable rehabilitation of the Barceloneta and Montjuïc promenades in Barcelona.
