The contract for the conservation and maintenance service of the sanitation network in the municipality of Salou, with the Unión Temporal de Empresas (UTE) Saneamiento Salou, formed by Acsa Obras e Infraestructuras (Sorigué group) and Agbar, came into force this June.

The purpose of this contract is to maintain and conserve the installations that make up the sanitation network of the municipal district of Salou; to ensure the continuity of this wastewater and rainwater network, electromechanical installations, underwater outlet pipes and new private connections; to maintain the installations themselves in good condition; and to anticipate possible breakdowns and carry out all the necessary operations, such as repairs, replacements, supplies, etc., as defined in the technical documentation of the contract.

The price of ordinary maintenance for the whole 3 years is €1,360,297.06 and the price foreseen for extraordinary maintenance is €1,200,000.

The mayor of Salou, Pere Granados, stated that "the sewer system guarantees hygiene and public health, as well as preventing possible flooding and facilitating the treatment of wastewater".

The councillor for General Services, Concessions and Authorisations, Jesús Barragán, explained that "Salou's sewer system, which is more than 200 kilometres long, serves approximately 29,000 inhabitants all year round, plus the increase in the summer population, and commercial establishments. The cleaning of the sewer system is necessary to ensure that both sewage and wastewater circulate without any solid element obstructing their flow and to ensure their correct evacuation". According to Barragán, "UTE Saneamiento Salou can provide the service that our municipality needs for the proper management and treatment of the water generated".
