The new railway platform for the southern access to the Port of Castellón is taking shape, emerging as a strategic infrastructure that will bolster freight transport and logistics connectivity between Spain and the rest of Europe. 

The macro-project consists of two sections totalling 8.3 km. The first could be operational by 2027, whilst the second is a 3.6 km project that Sorigué is executing through its company Acsa, in a joint venture with Contratas Vilor. 

Due to its scale and significance, this second section of the railway platform will enhance the competitiveness of the Port of Castellón, transforming it into a leading logistics hub within the future Mediterranean Corridor. 

Scheduled for delivery in 2026, its purpose is to connect the internal network of PortCastelló’s southern basin with the future intermodal station, designed for transferring cargo between lorries and trains. 

The project involves a single mixed-gauge track—standard and Iberian—exclusively dedicated to freight transport. It includes two viaducts with spans of 130 m and 35 m, two underpasses within the port area, and two 29.50 m overpasses for elevated roundabouts. 

One of its technical milestones is the crossing over the Fraga ravine. To span this riverbed, a ramp with a 12 per thousand gradient is being built to reach the required elevation for the 35-metre-long viaduct. Past this point, the route runs on a slope until its final section within the port facilities.
