Sorigué’s beach and river maintenance teams take part in an emergency drill on the Ebro River
Sorigué’s teams responsible for the inspection and maintenance of a section of the Ebro River participated in an emergency drill aimed at simulating a real-life response scenario.
The activity forms part of the training in Health Emergencies and Auxiliary Nursing Care delivered by the Ebro Institute. Various companies and public administrations from the area collaborated in the drill.
Last Friday, May 25, Sorigué teams responsible for the inspection and maintenance of a stretch of the Ebro River took part in an emergency drill. The exercise consisted of assisting in a fire on a tourist boat in the middle of the river.
The activity is part of the practical training of vocational programmes in the healthcare field taught at the Ebro Institute, located in Tortosa, Tarragona.
Using the company’s own resources assigned to this contract, the Sorigué team extinguished the fire on a vessel and accompanied healthcare trainees to the scene of the accident.
Subsequently, using another vessel, the damaged boat was towed to the river port where additional healthcare teams and ambulances were waiting to provide first aid and transfer the injured persons.
Sorigué’s contribution to the activity was carried out without incident and also enabled the company to put into practice the resources available for situations of this kind.
Emergency drills of this type involve the participation of the Medical Emergency Service (SEM) of the Generalitat de Catalunya, together with various local councils and companies from the area, including this year the Institute for the Development of the Ebro Regions (IDECE), with which Sorigué holds this service contract on the Ebro River.
Since 2015, Sorigué has been responsible for the inspection, conservation and maintenance of the navigable channel of the Ebro River between Ascó and Amposta. The service includes, among other tasks, continuous inspection of the area, river maintenance through dredging and algae collection, and the signalling of the navigable channel using buoys.
