Sorigué receives the seal of Company Committed to Culture
This is a pioneering distinction in the sector that endorses the leadership, excellence and commitment of companies and gives them the possibility of forming part of an initiative to promote Social Responsibility in favour of culture.
This seal, with a validity of three years (2021 – 2023), is a recognition of the support that the business group allocates to the cultural fabric as a driver of economic progress and social transformation, as well as a source of inspiration and intellectual enrichment, according to the Fundació Catalunya Cultura.
This is a pioneering distinction in the sector that endorses the leadership, excellence and commitment of companies and gives them the possibility of forming part of an initiative to promote Social Responsibility in favour of culture.
To receive this recognition, Sorigué has been evaluated under four assessment criteria established by the Chair of Social Responsibility of the University of Girona: organisational leadership regarding the promotion of culture, participation in activities for the promotion of culture, quality of the activities for the promotion of culture and relevance of the activities for the promotion of culture.
Commitment to giving back
The Sorigué group promotes its vocation of giving back to society through the Fundació Sorigué, by means of activities in the social, educational and cultural fields.
Recently, the Fundació Sorigué has co-produced with Matadero Madrid “Blind Sensorium”, the first individual exhibition of the photographer and documentarian Armin Linke in Spain, which could be seen between March and May 2021.
In March 2019, the entity presented its first exhibition in Madrid: “Mat Collishaw. Dialogues” by the British artist Mat Collishaw at the Royal Botanical Garden of Madrid. Shortly afterwards, Collishaw’s work was exhibited in its museum in Lleida with the exhibition “Mat Collishaw. The End of Innocence”.
Among the artistic works of recent years, the Fundació Sorigué has exhibited “Oscar Muñoz: des/materialisations” by Oscar Muñoz, “In the beginning was…” by Chiharu Shiota, “Photographs” by Wim Wenders and a compendium of works by Antonio López.
Among the artists that comprise it, internationally prestigious names stand out such as Anselm Kiefer, William Kentridge, Bill Viola, Chuck Close, Anish Kapoor, Antonio López, Daniel Richter, Antony Gormley and Julie Mehretu.
PLANTA Project
PLANTA is the project that brings together the business vision of the Sorigué group with the vocation of giving back of the Fundació Sorigué and in which art, knowledge, architecture and landscape converge.
PLANTA opened its doors in October 2017 with “Double Bind” by Juan Muñoz, a monumental installation considered the artist’s masterpiece. In June 2019, PLANTA inaugurated its first permanent installation, “Ocean Without a Shore”, by the leading figure of video art worldwide, Bill Viola. In addition, the Anselm Kiefer Pavilion and the sculptures “Day” and “Night”, by Antonio López, were opened to the public.
The latest artistic additions to the PLANTA project inaugurated in 2021 have been the works “More Sweetly Play the Dance” by William Kentridge and “In the beginning was…” by Chiharu Shiota.
PLANTA is located in the industrial complex La Plana del Corb of Sorigué in Balaguer (Lleida), an environment that symbolises the beginnings of Sorigué as a company and materialises its values.
In this place, extractive activity and industrial processes coexist with agricultural plantations, centres for research and dissemination of knowledge, as well as unique contemporary art spaces.
