This year the Sorigué group has resumed manufacturing of these massive concrete prefabs meant for covering the tunnels of the main section of Barcelona’s L9 metro line for Transportes Metropolitanos de Barcelona (TMB).  

This is a landmark project for the group given how important it is for Barcelona and also due to the involvement of so many departments from Sorigué’s Materials Division.  

The entire manufacturing process takes place at the group’s La Plana del Corb industrial complex factory in Lleida. Over 9,000 ring segments will be built at these facilities to cover the 10 km tunnel section of the metro.  

Manufacturing Process

Sorigué’s ring segment factory features a moving manufacturing system. The main benefits of this system come from flow production: highly-specialised manufacturing operators, high productivity and high-quality prefabs.  

Plus, the aggregates used to prepare the concrete for ring segments come from the group’s own gravel pit. In this sense, another major benefit is the quality of the materials used and the staff’s aggregate expertise.  

The Sorigué group has been building tunnel ring segments for over 20 years. Over these years it has built over 600,000 ring segments of varying outer diameters ranging from 3,900 mm to 11,700 mm depending on the individual needs of the project.  

Other landmark projects Sorigué has been involved in include building the new entrance to Barcelona Airport’s terminal for regional trains, extending the Sabadell railway line for Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat and the 5th section of the Segarra Garrigues irrigation canal.
