The public company Canal de Isabel II has entrusted Sorigué with upgrading several of its Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTPs) and Drinking Water Treatment Plants (DWTPs). The works, to be carried out under two contracts, will commence in January 2026. 

The company is thus reinforcing its commitment to projects that improve the efficiency of its clients’ hydraulic facilities through maintenance, equipment replacement and adaptation to new environmental regulations. 

With these contracts, the company is supplementing the services it already provides to Canal de Isabel II such as urgent repairs to the drinking water network, making connections to the distribution network, renewing old supply pipes, and the maintenance and operation of rechlorination equipment. 

In addition, Sorigué is carrying out other projects for the public company, such as renewing the sewerage network in the urban centre of Cáceres, constructing a new sewerage collector on a self-supporting structure in Arroyomolinos, and reinforcing the medium-voltage line to increase the electrical capacity at the El Endrinal WWTP in Collado-Villalba. 

More efficient treatment plants 

Over the next five years, starting in January 2026, Sorigué will carry out 43 actions in the main areas of the Purification and Environment Sub-directorate of Canal de Isabel II: Alberche, Guadarrama, Jarama and Lozoya. 

These actions will ensure an improvement in the facilities and numerous processes, while guaranteeing compliance with new environmental guidelines for discharges. 

Notable works include the treatment of storm overflows at the La Reguera WWTP, the expansion of the bioreactor’s capacity at the Las Matas WWTP, the new biological reactor aeration system at the Fuente El Saz WWTP, and the screening treatment at the Talamanca WWTP. 

Better quality drinking water 

Between January 2026 and December 2029, Sorigué will be responsible for urgent actions, conservation works and maintenance at the Drinking Water Treatment Plants (DWTPs) in the Guadarrama Area of the Community of Madrid. 

The works aim to increase the useful life of the facilities to improve the quality of drinking water at five of the main DWTPs in the region: Valmayor, La Jarosa, Navacerrada, La Aceña and Santillana. 

Improvements to filters and false bottoms, valve replacement, underwater works, rehabilitation and repair of plates, settling tank walls or other infrastructure, and the replacement of large-diameter gates and valves are some of the main actions. 

Sorigué will also collaborate on the design and manufacture of the electromechanical equipment for this project, thereby broadening its track record of services for Canal de Isabel II. 

Over 50 years in Madrid 

Sorigué has been operating in the Community of Madrid for over 50 years through various business areas. 

Over the last decade, it has carried out works for Canal de Isabel II including the expansion of the treatment capacity at the Arroyo del Soto WWTP, the replacement of the perimeter fence and construction of a landscaped walkway and recreation area at its headquarters, and the management of automation at some of its facilities, among other actions. 

Recently, the Community of Madrid awarded Sorigué the Madrid Excelente seal for demonstrating its quality in key aspects such as work-life balance policies, inclusion, cybersecurity and innovation.
