Sorigué Improves Public Facilities in Girona, Zaragoza, and Navarre

October 2, 2025

Sorigué’s Urban Spaces division is strengthening its footprint in northern Spain with new public contracts involving construction, remodelling, and energy efficiency upgrades.

The Northern Urban Spaces unit of Sorigué continues to successfully execute its territorial expansion strategy in northern Spain.

Its most recent awards in the provinces of Girona, Zaragoza, and Pamplona confirm the confidence that various institutions place in the company for upgrading public facilities such as the Palamós municipal market in Girona, the Sarriguren Sports City in Navarre, the Ebro Hydrographic Confederation building in Zaragoza, and the Torres Quevedo building at the University of Zaragoza.

In each of these projects, the Northern Urban Spaces business line, through its company Constraula, deploys specialised teams in comprehensive renovations and energy retrofitting so that citizens can enjoy their facilities as quickly as possible.

Palamós Market, Girona

The building housing the Palamós market in Girona province was constructed in 1989 and now shows clear signs of deterioration. The Municipal Government has proposed a comprehensive renovation that addresses energy, aesthetic, and functional aspects while preserving the overall structure.

To boost energy efficiency, Sorigué will carry out the dismantling of façades, roofs, and flooring, improve the drainage and sanitation network, and perform other actions across a total of 1,725.35 m² of interior surfaces.

The works also include installing a new staircase and elevator to enhance accessibility from the main façade.

This contract is part of the Public Building Renovation Incentive Programme (PIREP), under the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR), co-financed by European Next Generation funds.

Sarriguren Sports City, Navarre

The Sarriguren Sports City is one of the two main municipal sports facilities in the Valle de Egüés area of Navarre, featuring pools, courts, fields, and rooms for physical activities.

The city council has commissioned Sorigué to build an indoor enclosure that will house a dining area, storage room, toilet, refuse room, and a covered outdoor area.

The design respects the image and volumes of the existing sports complex to create a cohesive look; facades and interior walls are finished in the same tone of exposed brick as the rest of the buildings.

The project covers 180 m² of surface area, including the accessible outdoor porch.

Ebro Hydrographic Confederation Building, Zaragoza

Built between 1936 and 1946, the Ebro Hydrographic Confederation building is one of the finest examples of rationalist architecture in Zaragoza and is listed as a Cultural Heritage Asset in the region of Aragón.

One of its main needs is improved thermal insulation. To achieve this, Sorigué is replacing the 353 interior windows in the offices, installing a new inverted flat roof, and upgrading the lighting to LED fixtures. These measures will provide insulation across 2,961.36 m² of surface area.

The contract falls under the Energy Transition Plan of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR) for modernising public administrations.

Torres Quevedo Building Lecture Hall, Zaragoza

The Government of Aragón aims to transform the lecture hall in the Torres Quevedo building at the University of Zaragoza into a modern, functional classroom adapted to the needs of the academic community.

The intervention covers a total of 599.22 m² and seeks to convert the former tiered seating area into a series of interconnected work platforms surrounding a central plaza. At this central point, the furniture can be reconfigured to support group work and collaborative projects.

The new classroom integrates into the Río Ebro campus, home to the School of Engineering and Architecture (EINA), part of the Faculty of Economics and Business, and several research and innovation institutions.

Projects across the country

Sorigué’s Cities division carries out work throughout most of Spain. Through its Urban Spaces, Green Infrastructure, and Installations & Technology lines, it has maintained a strong presence for decades in Catalonia, Madrid, and Andalusia. In recent years, it has begun establishing itself in the Valencian Community and Murcia. With these new contracts, the company is now also entering Navarre and Aragón.
