2024 Non-Financial Information Statement (NFIS): Sorigué reaffirms its commitment to responsible growth
The Sorigué Group has published its 2024 Non-Financial Information Statement (NFIS), highlighting its leadership in high-impact environmental research, the rollout of internal sustainability and social inclusion initiatives, and its widely influential cultural initiatives.
Sorigué presented its Non-Financial Information Statement (NFIS), emphasising the initiatives that guided its activities throughout 2024. These include the development of sustainable innovation projects applied to its business, a strong focus on a supply chain evaluated against social and environmental criteria, and the incorporation of new business lines.
With over 90% of its activities certified in CSR and Compliance, Sorigué has earned significant recognition, including the Forbes-UBS Sustainability Award in the industrial category for its internal sustainability policies. It was also a finalist in the World Smart City Awards with the Regenerar Barcelona project. This proposal, which can improve the livability and energy efficiency of buildings, stood out among 429 entries from 64 countries.
Operating in the areas of City, Water, Industry, Infrastructure and Materials, Building, Energy, and Agribusiness, Sorigué is active in the regions of Madrid, Catalonia, Valencia, Andalusia, Murcia, the Balearic Islands, and Aragon. More than 70 years of history confirm its dedication to responsible growth through innovation, knowledge management, and sustainability.
Innovation and development
As part of a strategic commitment, Sorigué allocated €3.9 million to innovation projects. Key research efforts include Bitsdrain, which proposes improving urban drainage systems using porous bituminous mixtures that reduce stormwater runoff.
The group has also launched a pilot plant to test the production of renewable hydrogen from bio-waste generated by park and garden maintenance. In this project, called VAL2H2, the Innovation Department collaborates with pruning waste supplied by the Green Infrastructure business line, clearly demonstrating internal synergies.
New business lines
Among the companies acquired in 2024, the standout is the purchase of 50% of Bitum Asfaltos e Infraestructuras. This strengthens Sorigué’s presence in Andalusia and expands its production capacity by adding a new plant for manufacturing bituminous mixtures.
Additionally, acquiring the “Applied Engineering” operating license from the Navec Group enables Sorigué to offer a new industrial service: the trenchless renewal of drinking water pipelines using automated carbon fibre application, eliminating the need for excavation.
Lower carbon emissions
With more than €15 million invested in environmental projects and a 10% reduction in its carbon footprint, Sorigué has upgraded its vehicle fleet with over 54 vehicles bearing ECO or zero-emission labels. It continues to invest in tractor units compliant with Euro VI-E regulations, ensuring minimal CO₂, nitrogen oxides, and particulate matter emissions.
It also stands out for implementing Bag in Box packaging – a format that uses less plastic than conventional jerrycans – for transporting pavement and road repair products distributed in France through its subsidiary Sorigué France.
Social impact
Sorigué’s positive and lasting impact on the communities where it operates is reflected in the funding of 73 social action projects and the promotion of social sustainability policies.
The 2024 NFIS highlights the renewal of the Bequal PLUS Seal, which certifies the effectiveness of policies for including people with disabilities, as well as the Nalanda Award for its efforts in monitoring supply chain quality. In fact, more than 1,600 suppliers have been evaluated against environmental criteria, and over 700 against social criteria.
Cultural impact
The Sorigué Foundation (Fundació Sorigué), which drives the company’s commitment to giving back to society, continues to create spaces for reflection through contemporary art.
La vida en emergencia (Life in Emergency), the first major exhibition by Madrid-based artist Juan Zamora, took place in the foundation’s headquarters during the early months of 2024. It allowed visitors to appreciate the fragility of ecosystems and sparked a discussion on their protection.
Meanwhile, the foundation opened William Kentridge – Fundació Sorigué to the public – one of the world’s most significant private collections of the artist’s work – solidifying the foundation’s international reach.
The exhibition, inaugurated in the artist’s presence, invited deep dialogue on universal themes and attracted more than 1,700 visitors between October and December, confirming the strong interest and impact of the proposal.
