Sorigué Launches a Pilot Project to Improve School Dining Halls in Barcelona
The remodels aim to create well-lit, welcoming, and inclusive spaces using sustainable materials.
A dining hall is much more than just the area reserved for meals; it’s a space for connection between children of different ages and an opportunity to continue educating in values of coexistence.
With this in mind, the Barcelona Education Consortium (CEB) has commissioned Sorigué to carry out a pilot project at the Molí school in the Sant Andreu district to transform the dining hall into a much friendlier and more inclusive space.
The results of this initial pilot will allow the model to be extended to ten dining halls in different schools and areas of the province of Barcelona.
The intervention is carried out in a single phase divided into several stages, with the major challenge of not interfering with the school’s regular class schedule. Once all existing furniture is removed, false ceilings are demolished, and installations are rerouted, the team proceeds to install the new dining hall elements, designed with sustainable materials.
Custom acoustic panels, lighting, and furniture are complemented by fresh paint and decoration to create a very pleasant and welcoming space. In the case of Molí school, the intervention covers a usable area of 289 m².
Urban spaces
With a strong presence in the city of Barcelona, Sorigué, through its company Constraula, is responsible for the maintenance and repair of all facilities in the City Council building.
It also handles the maintenance of 350 municipal buildings in the city assigned to the Eixample and Les Corts districts, including several Municipal Government offices.
These works are coordinated from the Urban Spaces division, a specialist in comprehensive building maintenance and rehabilitation – including facilities and civil works – with a presence in practically every part of the country.
Currently, Sorigué is active in 14 of Madrid’s 21 districts, carrying out contracts for street improvements and upgrades, parks, squares, and the remodelling of sports, educational, and cultural facilities. These projects are part of framework agreements that have been strengthened since 2015.
In the Madrid municipalities of Parla, Coslada, and Móstoles, the Urban Spaces division has also carried out high-impact contracts for residents, such as repaving the Plaza Mayor in Coslada, remodelling the Plaza del Tesillo in Fuenlabrada, and maintaining green areas, parks, and urban gardens in Parla.
In the Andalusian capital, Sorigué is responsible for keeping the Ciudad de la Justicia in Seville in perfect condition and for addressing urban incidents reported through the citizen service line 072. In addition, it handles the comprehensive maintenance of key institutions at the University of Valencia, spread across various points in the province.
