Sant Andreu de la Barca awards Sorigué’s prefabricated line for its contribution to the municipality

July 4, 2025

The Catalan town council has recognised Sorigué’s ICA company for its contribution to local development thanks to its concrete prefabrication plant located in the municipality.

The municipal government of Sant Andreu de la Barca has awarded Sorigué the Business Merit Medal in the ’Industry’ category for its precast concrete line, through its company ICA.

According to Miquel Àngel Abril, Councillor for Commerce and Industry at the Municipal Government, “Sorigué’s ICA is a leading company that contributes significantly to the economic and social development of Sant Andreu de la Barca, serving as a national benchmark. It also has deep roots in the city, making it a particularly beloved organisation.”

In his acceptance speech, José Ángel Martín, Director of Materials Production, highlighted the close ties with this Catalan town, where the company was born in 1960, and emphasised that “every pavement, every tile, every cobble that leaves our facilities carries a part of this environment that has welcomed us and helped us establish ourselves.”

Also present from Sorigué were Jordi Azlor, General Director of Infrastructures and Materials; Rosa Pérez, Head of Prefabricated Products; and Ricard Garrigó, Sales Manager for Prefabricated Products.

The awards were presented during the Sant Andreu de la Barca Business Day event, held on July 3 at the Teatre Núria Espert. During the event, the town’s mayor, Marc Giribet, spoke about the local economy as a driver of cohesion, followed by a roundtable on the challenges and opportunities of reducing working hours.

The Business Merit Medals were then awarded to Mathom Store in the ’Commerce and Services’ category; to the restaurant El Porrón in the ’Restaurants’ category; to Cristalería del Llobregat for its ’Historical Relevance’; and to ICA in the ’Industry’ category.

Paving for urban development

ICA was acquired by Sorigué in 2010 and now leads the production of concrete prefabricated elements in both small and large formats.

Its plant in Sant Andreu de la Barca specialises in manufacturing paving for urban development such as slabs, steps, kerbs, and cobbles. Sorigué’s prefabricated line also operates two other plants at the La Plana del Corb industrial complex in Balaguer (Lleida), where tunnel lining segments and sanitation pipes are produced.

In line with Sorigué’s commitment to innovation and sustainability, the prefabricated line stands out for producing photocatalytic pavements that keep surfaces clean and help improve air quality.

Another noteworthy product is the hybrid pavement that uses recycled aggregates, making it the first company in the sector to obtain the Eco-Label – a certification that confirms its high environmental standards beyond the mandatory requirements.

Projects featuring products from Sorigué’s prefabricated line include the tunnel lining segments for Barcelona Metro Line 9 and Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya Line 8. They also supplied large-diameter concrete pipes for the San Salvador reservoir in Huesca, as well as slabs, cobbles, and kerbs used to pave urban spaces in hundreds of projects across the country.
