Renovation at the Puente de Vallecas Municipal Sports Centre, Madrid
Comprehensive remodelling of the children’s pool and installation of a saltwater chlorination system in the Olympic pool at the Puente de Vallecas Municipal Sports Centre (CDM), Madrid.
Since its construction in 1960, the Puente de Vallecas Municipal Sports Centre (CDM) had never undergone any renovation. This is the first comprehensive remodelling of its facilities, focusing on the Olympic pool, children’s pool, changing rooms, and surrounding deck areas.
This project falls under the Framework Agreement for renovation, repair, and maintenance works at Municipal Sports Centres and Basic Sports Facilities (Lot 2), managed by the Puente de Vallecas District.
Work carried out in the buildings includes:
- Complete demolition of wall coverings, partitions, and existing installations.
- New electrical, plumbing, and drainage systems.
- Redesigned spatial layout to meet the current needs of the CDM.
- Replacement of doors, windows, and metalwork.
The children’s pool has been entirely rebuilt. By demolishing the previous pool, it was possible to create a larger facility that includes an accessible ramp.
For the Olympic pool, all water treatment equipment was replaced with a saltwater chlorination system. This improves water quality using a product that is healthier for users and significantly reduces chlorine consumption.
A new pool deck was created using porous concrete, which enhances water drainage, prevents slips, and provides a much more uniform appearance.
In the lounging and surrounding areas, stamped concrete was installed, and the natural grass was upgraded with an automatic irrigation system.
Technical data
Porous concrete: Applied to the pool deck area.
Saltwater chlorinator: Chlorine output of 500 g/h.
Metalwork: Stainless steel fixtures and fittings throughout.
