Sorigué is constructing Hospital del Mar’s connection to the Districlima heating and cooling network

September 22, 2016

Sorigué, through its company Acsa, Obras e Infraestructura, S.A., has been awarded contract for the project to connect the Hospital del Mar to the heating and cooling distribution network being promoted by Districlima in District 22@ of Barcelona. This network provides a climate control system which distributes centrally generated heat and cold, yielding a more efficient and economical system that offers significant savings in greenhouse gas emissions.

The project to connect the Hospital del Mar, valued at some 5 million euros, includes 8 km of pre-insulated piping with diameters between 250 and 55 mm, which run along four parallel pipelines across 2 km, through the districts of San Martí and Ciutat Vella, connecting the Hospital del Mar to the main network existing on Calle Badajoz.

The complexity involved in executing this project in an urban area with many other utility lines, together with the need to meet strict deadlines for connection, requires the experience and resources of Sorigué in piping works, helping to further consolidate the company’s leading position in these kinds of projects, and particularly in the construction of urban heating and cooling networks, an area in which Sorigué is a leading contractor.

Sobre Districlima

Districlima was established in 2002 to implement, for the first time in Spain, an urban heating and cooling distribution network for use in heating, climate control, and domestic hot water.
In its initial stage, the project is located in an area of Barcelona that was redesigned and replanned to host the 2004 Universal Forum of Cultures (Front Litoral del Besòs). The project includes the design, construction, and subsequent operation, through a 25-year concession, of the Forum production plant and the energy distribution network.

In 2005, after conducting a public tender, the second stage began with the expansion of the network to the 22@ technology district. With a 27-year concession, the network is being expanded at pace with the urban development of the area and the connection needs of new users.
