November 25, 2024

The work executed by Sorigué has been recognised with a Special Mention in the Environment category in the awards that highlight the best works in the province of Alicante

The 17th edition of the FOPA Awards has recognised the best works in the province of Alicante: among the award winners, the Special Mention in the Environment category granted to the works for the refurbishment of the WWTP of Tabarca Island and the construction of a submarine pipeline towards the mainland stands out, promoted by the Public Entity for Wastewater Treatment (EPSAR) and executed by Sorigué together with Route Pont.

A key project for sustainability

This project, which reinforces the sustainability of the Tabarca Marine Reserve, has been conceived as an exemplary solution to avoid the discharge of untreated wastewater, especially during tourist peaks. The infrastructure allows the diversion of this water towards the mainland, where it is treated at the Santa Pola plant.

Among the characteristics that have earned this recognition, the following stand out:

  • Innovation and environmental respect: The modernisation of the WWTP and the construction of the submarine pipeline solve historical problems, combining advanced technology with sustainability.
  • Protection of marine biodiversity: The work ensures the conservation of unique ecosystems, such as Posidonia oceanica meadows, which are essential for the balance of the Mediterranean.
  • Remote control and efficiency: The implementation of SCADA systems and state-of-the-art pumps guarantees sustainable operation and remote control.
  • Integrative submarine pipeline: The use of concrete ballast designed to promote biodiversity turns the infrastructure into an example of ecological integration.
  • Reduction of pollution: The elimination of discharges into the sea improves water quality and promotes environmentally respectful tourism.
  • A model of sustainable engineering: The project positions itself as a benchmark of how technical innovation can coexist in harmony with nature.

Recognition of public works

In addition to this Special Mention, the reurbanisation works of Avenida del Mediterráneo in Benidorm have been awarded as the Best Work of the Province of Alicante. For its part, the Alicante Seafront Promenade and the Port Square have been awarded for their integration into the environment and respect for the environment.

The FOPA Awards are organised by the Federation of Public and Auxiliary Works of the Province of Alicante, with the aim of recognising the best public works carried out in the region. The initiative seeks to highlight the positive impact of infrastructures on the socioeconomic development and territorial cohesion of the province.ostenible y controlado a distancia.
