Sorigué transforms the area around Carrer Viriato in Barcelona into a modern play and leisure area

The business group has applied two of its high-performance pavements for the tactical urbanisation of the area around Carrer Viriato in the Sants-Montjuïc district.
Through its company specialising in asphalt, Firtec, Sorigué has been responsible for carrying out the tactical urbanisation works in the area around Carrer Viriato, located in the Sants-Montjuïc district of Barcelona, to transform this space into a modern play and leisure area for the public.
The project included the combined application of two high-performance urban pavements, Continuous Firflex and Firbond-Pu, to create a play and recreation surface in the district.
1,039 m² of Continuous Firflex
Firstly, the outlines were created by applying 1039 m² of Continuous Firflex, a high-performance finishing system that achieves the appearance of a natural pavement while maintaining the mechanical performance of an asphalt wearing course.
Its composition consists of placing a high resistance resin on an asphalt or concrete surface followed by a 1/3 mm aggregate covering to give a natural stone finish to the surface.
1,571 m² of Firbond-Pu
The central areas of the square were then finished by applying 1,571 m² of Firbond-Pu, a finishing system made from a hybrid polyurethane-based resin and a mineral filler with extremely hard aggregates.

The advantages of applying both pavements are the high resistance to wear and tear and to the stresses produced by all types of traffic, the adaptation to movement, and the anti-fuel and anti-slip properties that they give the road surface.
In addition, these finishes allow for a wide variety of designs. The Continuous Firflex natural stone finishing system has a wide range of options, with a choice of different sizes, shades and types of aggregate, whereas Firbond-Pu allows the choice of multiple colours with long lasting pigments and high UV resistance.
A coral type aggregate with a size between 1 and 3 mm was chosen for the work. Different pigments were combined to obtain shades of ochre and orange to create the design of the different areas installed.
Once the application of the urban paving was completed, the urbanisation project for the area was completed with the installation of street and sports furniture. In addition, the business group’s green infrastructure company, Ambitec, was responsible for the creation of the green areas as a result of the synergies between the different companies in the group.
With this work, a play and leisure area has been created for citizens with a high quality and resistant pavement which is designed to withstand all types of traffic.
