Sorigué participating in the ALBEPAV project for development of a new sustainable pavement

May 3, 2016

Last month, the Center for Industrial Technology Development (CDTI, in Spanish) approved the project titled “Development of a new cooling pavement for improved urban energy efficiency (ALBEPAV)”.

The main objective of this project is to develop a new sustainable pavement with increased durability through incorporation of recycled glass aggregate, recycled asphalt pavement (RAP), and the use of low-energy consumption tempered mixtures.

ALBEPAV, which will last 34 months, is being developed by a consortium that includes COMSA, Sorigué, and Progeo, with the subcontracting of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia.

To this end, the consortium seeks to develop a new low-energy consumption pavement that can significantly contribute to the reduction of the “Heat Island” phenomenon by making changes in the design of the mixture that reduce the radiation absorbed by the pavement, and thus also the heat it releases into the environment.

The project will include the building of a test track, which will be subject to monitoring and analysis of its thermal behaviors.

The Center for Industrial Technology Development is a Public Company under the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, which promotes innovation and the development of technology in Spanish companies. It is the entity which responds to requests fro Spanish companies for financing and support for R&D and innovation projects conducted in Spain and abroad.
