Commissioning of the new cleaning and maintenance vessel for Ebro River navigability

May 19, 2016

The Navegabilitat Ebre temporary consortium, comprised of Sorigué, Aquambiente, and Servidel, together with the Institut per al Desenvolupament de les Conques de l’Ebre (IDECE), has today presented an innovative model for a vessel to perform cleaning and maintenance of the river’s navigable waterway. The inaugural ceremony was attended by the Delegate of the Govern a las Terres de l’Ebre, Xavier Pallarès, the Director of the IDECE, Joan Martín, the Mayor of Tortosa, and representatives of UTE Navegabilitat Ebre consortium (Sorigué, AquaAmbient, and Servidel).

The new vessel, which began operations this season, ensures control and collection of microphytes, thus allowing use of the waterway both by motorized vessels and recreational boats (canoes, kayaks, etc.), as well as other river activities.

The new vessel, which began operations this season, ensures control and collection of microphytes, thus allowing use of the waterway both by motorized vessels and recreational boats (canoes, kayaks, etc.), as well as other river activities.

Specifically, the characteristics of this vessel, which was manufactured in Germany and was acquired by the consortium, are as follows: 10 meters long by 3 meters wide, weight of 11,500 kg, with payload of 13 cubic meters (6.5 tons), and profile measurements at 2.5 meters long and 1.8 meters in height.

This vessel has already begun operations, despite the fact that the high level of the Ebro River currently prevents cleaning and maintenance works from beginning.
