Sorigué collaborates with the Model Architecture Festival in Barcelona by donating materials

April 21, 2023
The Model. Architecture Festival took place in Barcelona between 20 and 30 April. This event was promoted by Barcelona City Council and organised by the Mies van der Rohe Foundation with the aim of transforming the city into a space for architectural experimentation and an open platform for the exchange of ideas.

Sorigué collaborated during the festival by donating two voussoirs —large pieces of pre-cast concrete that form the rings lining the tunnels— and granite blocks for the Permanently Temporary installation. This creation by architects KOSMOS and PARABASE was open to the public at La Clariana in Barcelona’s Parc de les Glòries throughout the festival. Different activities, conferences and performances were also held in this space as part of the programme.

Permanently Temporary used unused construction materials. The installation has a double objective: firstly, to serve as a public space and storage of materials and, secondly, to raise awareness of the need to reuse these materials and turn them into resources to continue building in a more environmentally-friendly way.
“Sorigué’s participation in this event is part of our desire to promote circularity as a response to the environmental impact of construction. It also positions us in the debate on the urban challenges of the future at a key meeting for the sector in the city of Barcelona”, explained Anna García, Director of Communication and Institutional Relations at Sorigué.

About the festival

Model was founded last year to rethink the way we live through new city models. To this end, it has offered a programme based on architecture and urban planning in relation to the social, political and climatic challenges of today’s cities.

The backbone of this year’s edition was the idea of radical empathy in design, architecture and the city. This theme was approached through research, dissemination and experimentation.
