The Valdelentisco desalination plant is a strategic infrastructure that supplies water to the region of Murcia both for human consumption and for irrigation, with a maximum production of 126,000 m³/day. Currently, the plant drives the flow through a distribution network towards the La Pernera reservoir, so that any failure or unforeseen event in the reservoir may cause a total or partial shutdown of the process and prevent the supply of water to users of Aguas de las Cuencas Mediterráneas, ACUAMED.

Large-diameter pipeline

To guarantee an adequate supply of desalinated water, Sorigué is installing a new Bypass pipeline. This large-diameter pipe, with 848 linear metres of helically welded steel ACH and 8 mm thickness, is accompanied by two new reinforced concrete structures/chambers, one for intake and another for discharge into the distribution network. In this way, the new Bypass transports the water produced at the Valdelentisco desalination plant without the need to pass through the La Pernera reservoir.

In addition to these major works, the Southern branch of Sorigué’s Infrastructure and Materials area has also executed a new drainage system in the control building with the necessary electromechanical elements for its proper functioning.

Infrastructure and rehabilitation

This project confirms Sorigué’s position as a benchmark in the construction and rehabilitation of hydraulic infrastructures thanks to its ability to adapt to the specifications of each project, its experience in projects of high technical complexity and its track record across all areas of civil engineering works.

Among the recent works carried out by the Southern branch of Infrastructure and Materials are the execution of collectors and pumping pipelines to group wastewater discharges from three towns in Seville towards the El Saucejo wastewater treatment plant, and the rehabilitation and restoration of the Sotiel-Olivargas dam in Huelva.
