Sorigué and the Construction Labour Foundation Train a New Pool of Future Site Supervisors

June 19, 2025

Through a tailored course designed to meet the company’s specific needs, the participants were able to become familiar with key concepts and machinery, strengthening their professional skills and preparing them to take on new career challenges.

A group of nine workers from various areas of Sorigué completed training at the Barcelona branch of the Construction Labour Foundation (FLC) with the goal of enhancing their competencies and building a pipeline of future site supervisors (encargados de obra).

This initiative is part of the group’s broader strategy to develop internal talent and fill key positions, particularly in the construction sector.

The 130-hour course was jointly designed by the FLC and Sorigué to address real-world needs. Through a combination of theoretical and practical classes, participants delved into topics such as management systems, topography and plan interpretation, construction systems, foundations and waterproofing, on-site execution control, quality assurance, safety, and more.

Going forward, the City, Infrastructure, and Materials divisions now have much more qualified operators ready to tackle new challenges. For Cristian Pérez Martín, who currently works as a foreman, the course provided a comprehensive overview of civil engineering works and allowed him to get hands-on experience with machinery he hadn’t used before.

Mauricio Slavner Leikin, an operator in the Northern Urban Spaces area, shares a similar view and would recommend the training for the added level of professionalism it brings to the job site. Meanwhile, Fernando García Reyes, with 20 years of experience in the sector, believes that all training adds value to his work, and this particular course will help him approach new projects in a different, more effective way.

These workers are part of the Infrastructure, Urban Spaces, and Asfaltos Catalunya business lines.

Training: key to the sector

For several years, the construction industry has been raising concerns about the difficulties in finding qualified labour to ensure generational renewal.

According to the 2024 “Mismatch between Supply and Demand” survey from the State Public Employment Service (SEPE) Occupations Observatory, seven of the top 20 most critical occupations are related to civil works.

The Observatory consulted experts on the causes of these mismatches, and the most common response was a lack of candidates. The survey went further, noting that there are enough unemployed people who could be hired, but they lack the required technical and professional skills.

This is why Sorigué’s Talent and Organisation Department has made it a priority to promote the personal and professional growth of its teams through technical training plans and specific skill-development programmes. In this regard, course content is aligned with the needs and expectations of different business areas to ensure maximum benefit from each programme.
