CLD renews its Bequal certification and its commitment to inclusion for persons with disabilities

July 16, 2019

The Bequal certification assesses the effective integration of inclusive policies for persons with disabilities in the different areas of a company. CLD obtained the Bequal certification in July 2015.

The Sorigué group company specialising in waste management, CLD, has been awarded the Bequal Plus certification again this past June by the Fundación Bequal in recognition of its inclusive policies and improvements made with regard to persons with disabilities who work for the company. CLD obtained the Bequal certification in July 2015.

The Bequal certification not only assesses the legal compliance of companies — e.g. that 2% of jobs in companies with more than 50 employees be reserved for persons with disabilities — but also the effective integration of disability-inclusive policies in the different areas of a company.

The Bequal certification is an evaluation formula used to determine the degree of commitment made by a company to Corporate Responsibility and Disability in essential areas such as strategy and leadership; the commitment made by senior management to persons with disabilities; human resources management; and compliance with the law and inclusive policies for equal opportunity in all hiring processes, access to employment, career advancement and training.

The Fundación Bequal, the entity responsible for awarding the certification of the same name, offers a certifiable systematised model of indicators that brings together all the tradition and experience of its founding entities: the Spanish Committee of Representatives of People with Disabilities (CERMI), the Fundación ONCE, FEACEM and the Fundación Seeliger y Conde.

CLD was founded in 1930 and is one of the first environmental operators in Catalonia, boasting more than 88 years of experience in urban services management. Originally CLD was structured as a cooperative, hence its Spanish name: Cooperativa de Usuarios del Servicio de Limpieza Pública Domiciliaria de Barcelona (Cooperative of Users of the Domestic Public Cleaning Service of Barcelona).

It currently has urban services contracts in place across more than 70 locations in Catalonia and Andorra. Among other operations, since 2009, CLD has been responsible for waste collection and street cleaning in the northern part of Barcelona, which encompasses the Nou Barris and Horta-Guinardó districts and serves more than 340,000 residents. The company was acquired by the Sorigué Group in March 2016.
