Julio Sorigué, founder of the Sorigué Group and the Fundació Sorigué, and a leading figure in Spain’s construction sector, has passed away

The businessman died at the age of 92 in Lleida. Julio Sorigué founded Sorigué S.A.U. in 1968, a company dedicated to construction and asphalt treatment, which developed into a diversified, financially sound group and a benchmark in the sector.

Lleida, 12 August 2025 – On Tuesday 12 August, Julio Sorigué, founder of the Sorigué Group, passed away at the age of 92. His funeral will take place this Thursday 14 August, at 11:00 am at the New Cathedral of Lleida.  

Born in 1933 in Cervera, Julio Sorigué was a pioneer in the construction sector from a very young age. In 1968 he founded Sorigué S.A.U. in Lleida, with a clear commitment to developing the province of Lleida and making a positive impact on the local territory. Through hard work and vision, he transformed the company into a benchmark in construction. 

Beyond his outstanding business achievements, Julio Sorigué’s life was marked by a profound commitment to social causes. Together with his wife, Josefina Blasco, he established the Fundació Sorigué in 1985, which houses one of Spain’s most important art collections and has been a cornerstone of social, educational, and cultural projects in Lleida. In 1992, he also founded the Fundació Sorigué Occupational Centre, a pioneering institution in Lleida dedicated to supporting people with intellectual disabilities.

His work as an entrepreneur, along with his perseverance and dedication, earned him numerous awards. In 2010, he received the Francesc Macià Medal for Work, followed by the Creu de Sant Jordi, both honours awarded by the Generalitat de Catalunya. In 2012, he was honoured with the Special Prestige Award from the Lleida Provincial Council in recognition of his 60 years in the sector, as well as the Gold Medal of the City of Lleida for his business contributions.

We will continue working with the same dedication and passion that he inspired in us, ensuring that Sorigué remains a benchmark for leadership and commitment.”
