CLD incorporates a photovoltaic plant in Zona Franca to supply energy to its fleet of electric vehicles

April 12, 2023

The Sorigué group company, which specialises in environmental services, has a photovoltaic plant that self-supplies electricity to the vehicles responsible for the street collection and cleaning contract in the western area of Barcelona.

CLD, Sorigué’s environmental services company, has installed a photovoltaic plant at its work centre in Hospitalet de Llobregat with the aim of self-supplying energy to part of its fleet of electric vehicles.

Last March, the Special Delegate of State for the Consorci de la Zona Franca de Barcelona, Pere Navarro, was able to see all the details of this important plant accompanied by Francisco Ullod, General Director of Ciudad de Sorigué, and Xavier Garcia del Río, Director of CLD.

The plant has 94 charging points in total, which are destined for 37 cleaning teams and 57 light vehicles for the waste collection and street cleaning contract in the western area of Barcelona, which includes the districts of Sants-Montjuic, Les Corts and Sarrià-Sant Gervasi. The photovoltaic plant consists of two main pergolas with an electrical output of 335 kWp, generating an annual energy output of 408 MWh. The installation is based on the Dynamic Load Management (DLM) software solution, which allows several electric vehicles to be charged at the same time in the most efficient way possible.

During this visit, Pere Navarro stressed that “CZFB continues to be very committed to the 2030 Agenda and to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals in the industrial field. This photovoltaic plant powered by CLD is great news as it significantly contributes to our strategy to increase the energy efficiency of Zona Franca to serve the region using green energy for zero-emission mobility.”
Xavier Garcia del Rio, director of CLD, explained that “the installation and commissioning of this photovoltaic plant is part of our vocation as an innovative company and our search for sustainable environmental solutions for our services, our customers and, above all, our city.”

Sorigué and energy efficiency

The business group continues to consolidate its commitment to the photovoltaic self-supply sector, both as a business area and in its own facilities, in line with its renewable energy strategy.

Sorigué has been installing solar panels for more than five years, mainly in residential buildings, offices, industries and, over the last year, in wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs).

Thanks to this commitment to the use of clean energy, the business group is reinforcing its commitment to offering increasingly sustainable services to the city.

The expansion of the fleet of electric vehicles and the installation of a photovoltaic plant at this work centre contribute to reducing the generation of polluting gases, such as CO₂, in order to achieve the goal of zero emissions within the framework of its street cleaning services in the city of Barcelona.
