Sorigué’s Underwater Activities Unit Relocates to Barcelona’s Port Olímpic

October 16, 2025

This business unit, part of the Water division, is responsible for highly specialised works and operations in marine and underwater environments.

Among the new features at Barcelona’s Port Olímpic is the office of Sorigué’s Underwater Activities unit, which includes office space, a storage facility, and a mooring for its work vessel, Paulina.

As part of the Water division, this unit provides comprehensive services in marine and underwater settings. Its work is essential to the blue economy, delivering sustainable technical solutions across the entire water cycle. Its marine and underwater projects range from project analysis and engineering development – including hydraulic calculations and planning – to the execution of technical solutions.

The Underwater Activities unit has its own in-house team of eight divers with years of experience in complex operations, along with advanced resources such as ROVs (Remotely Operated Vehicles) that enable inspections in tight spaces and low-visibility conditions, plus the vessel Paulina, specially equipped for underwater hydraulic works.

Specialised Expertise

Experts in the construction and maintenance of submarine outfalls and sea intakes, as well as the installation and repair of submerged mechanical equipment, the Underwater Activities unit operates in ports and hydraulic infrastructure projects.

Notable projects include the construction of a submarine outfall for the Torrevieja desalination plant in Alicante; remodelling works at the port of Coma-ruga in Tarragona, Catalonia; and emergency repairs to the submarine outfall of the Mataró wastewater treatment plant, also in Catalonia.

Currently, the Underwater Activities unit is involved in the construction of a district heating and cooling plant for the city of Barcelona. Its role involves building a seawater intake tower for cooling the system’s machinery and installing a concrete jacked microtunnel that will serve as an intake.

Sorigué’s Water division designs and implements engineering solutions for all types of hydraulic infrastructure, from wastewater, desalination, and drinking water treatment plants to collectors and pumping stations. It also has extensive experience in the custom manufacturing, installation, and maintenance of equipment for these facilities.

The group is additionally an expert in building and maintaining water networks, working on dams and reservoirs; therefore, specialising in the maintenance of marine pipelines and infrastructure was a natural progression that led to the creation of the Underwater Activities line.

Leaders in the construction, urban services, and water cycle sectors, the Sorigué group has more than 70 years of experience delivering value-driven solutions that emphasise innovation and sustainability.
