Sorigué shares its experience in bituminous emulsions at the ATEB national conference

October 17, 2024

The business group spoke in a round table discussion on the potential of in-situ recycling with emulsion.

Sorigué, through its Infrastructure and Materials area, participated in the 6th National Technical Conference on Bituminous Emulsions organized by the Technical Association of Bituminous Emulsions (ATEB).

At the event, held this Tuesday, October 15, at the Higher Technical School of Civil Engineering of the Polytechnic University of Madrid (ETSICCP), the importance of sustainability and innovation in road infrastructure through the use of bituminous emulsions was addressed.

Mar Subarroca, Head of Laboratory and R\&D\&I at Sorigué, took part in one of the round tables of the conference, entitled “Potential of in-situ recycling with emulsion and critical aspects.”

The round table was moderated by Mª José Sierra, Head of the Technical Control Unit for Works of the Public Works Agency of the Regional Government of Andalusia (AOPJA) and honorary member of AEB, and included the participation of Paula Pastor, engineer at the State Road Authority in Aragon, Tomás Ordóñez, engineer at the State Road Authority in Eastern Castile and León, and Alberto Bardesi, honorary member of ATEB.

In another of the conference sessions, “Experiences with the technique on roads under the responsibility of MITMA. Works carried out in the Burgos and Teruel districts,” Pastor and Ordóñez participated as representatives of the Administration to explain success stories in which the in-situ recycling with emulsion technique has been used.

In this regard, they highlighted two of the projects carried out by Sorigué: the structural rehabilitation of the pavement on a section of the N-211 road, between the towns of Castell de Cabra and Alcorisa, in the province of Teruel, and the structural rehabilitation of the pavement on a section of the N-122 road, between Aranda de Duero and the border with the province of Valladolid, in the province of Burgos.

Núria Querol, R\&D\&I Laboratory Coordinator at Sorigué, also participated in the congress to present the ATEB awards. Jordi Albareda, Director of Infrastructure and Materials Contracting at Sorigué, presented the award, as winner of the previous edition, to the winner of this year’s best photography competition: Alfredo Bobis, Head of Product Development at Sorigué.

In-situ recycling with emulsion

The in-situ recycling with emulsion technique enables the structural rehabilitation of aged pavement through the homogeneous mixing of the material resulting from milling the existing pavement, bituminous emulsion, water and, if necessary, additives. All of this is carried out at ambient temperature and in a single process performed in situ.

As a clear commitment to innovation and sustainability, this technique allows Sorigué to drastically reduce greenhouse gas emissions, vapours and solid particles compared to other techniques. In addition, it contributes to energy savings during the process and reduces the use of natural resources.

About the conference

The meeting, which this year focused on the theme “Sustainable and innovative paving: contribution of bituminous emulsion,” included the participation of other sector specialists who addressed key issues such as environmental sustainability and the new regulations being implemented. Among the collaborating companies, in addition to Sorigué, were Probisa, Ecoasfalt, Padecasa, Tecnofirmes, Conelsan and Pavasal.

The programme also included round tables so that attendees could learn first-hand about best practices and innovative solutions in paving, as well as networking spaces.

About ATEB

ATEB was established in 2002 to promote the use of bituminous emulsions in paving. The technical nature of the association positions both the entity and its members as global technological leaders in this field.

Sorigué is part of this association alongside other leading entities and companies in the sector, such as Cepsa, Repsol, Eiffage Infraestructuras, Ingevity and Conelsan.
