Sorigué researches new technology for sustainable water management in tourist facilities

July 2, 2018

The three-year Watertur project is managed by Sorigué in collaboration with the Leitat technology center and aims to apply advanced technologies to the treatment of greywater.

Sorigué runs the Watertur project, which researches new technologies to manage the water cycle in tourist facilities in a smart and sustainable way.

This research aims to develop innovative technologies to optimize and provide higher intelligence to the main points of water consumption and purification, primarily in the recreational area and in the different treatment systems that exist in a hotel facility.

The project, developed in collaboration with the Leitat technological center, seeks to apply advanced technology to greywater treatment—waste water that comes from domestic use such as washing clothes or dishes, as well as bath water—through the implementation of a wetland with a vertical wall configuration and bioelectrochemical technology to generate energy.

This system will be integrated with treatment technology for blackwater—water contaminated with feces or urine—which consists of an anaerobic membrane biofilter. Using an advanced control, it will be able to determine which hybrid configuration is most suitable for treating this kind of water. The goal is to obtain effluent water that is suitable for reuse in different applications within the same hotel facilities.

This project has been subsidized by the agencia ACC1Ó, the Generalitat de Catalunya’s agency for business competition, for the RIS3CAT communities—groups of businesses and parties involved in Catalan research and innovation that promote R&D&i.
