The service consists of the removal and transport of sand and sludge waste generated in the facilities managed by the company Aigües de Barcelona: collectors, wastewater treatment plants (WWTP), wastewater pumping stations (WWPS) and the Sant Joan Despí drinking water treatment plant (DWTP).
The waste sand and sludge generated at the facilities managed by Aigües de Barcelona is removed, stored and transported to the waste treatment and/or disposal plants authorised by the Catalan Waste Agency.
The service begins at treatment plants, water treatment plants, pumping stations and sand siphons, where the material is collected and transported in coordination with the technical services of Aigües de Barcelona, by emptying and changing waste containers.

In some cases it is necessary to move containers internally to facilitate the overall organisation and logistics. Large containers are used for temporary storage at the Aigües de Barcelona facilities.
Waste generation from the wastewater treatment cycle is irregular, especially in rainy seasons, which is why a 24-hour, 365-day-a-year emergency service is also included.
