Sorigué takes the lead in smart pipeline project

November 2, 2017

In collaboration with the Polytechnical University of Catalonia, the company is carrying out research to develop a new technology to replace the current reinforced concrete.

Sorigué’s Materials area is taking the lead in a research project called “Smart pipelines manufactured with cement composites and textiles (TUBOTEX)”, whose objective is to manufacture pipelines using technology based on new materials to replace reinforced concrete in the production of large-scale pipelines.

The project will last for 18 months and is approved by the Management Board of the Center for Industrial Technological Development (CDTI), as well as being supported by the Polytechnic University of Catalonia.

TUBOTEX forms part of the CDTI R&D program for research and development of applied business solutions. The objective of the project is to manufacture pipelines using technology that employs microcement-matrix composites. The pipes will be manufactured using high-performance fiber mesh, increasing safety and security and extending their life cycle.

With the aim of providing more value added to the new system, the pipelines will be equipped with leak detection through installation of smart components.
