Sorigué, contractor and concessionaire of Line 9, present at its inauguration
On February 12, several Sorigué executives attended the inauguration ceremony of the new metro line, held at the Fira station and presided over by the President of the Government of Catalonia, Carles Puigdemont; the Vice President, Oriol Junqueras; the Minister for Territory and Sustainability, Josep Rull; and the Spanish Secretary of State for Infrastructure, Julio Gómez Pomar.
At the launch of Line 9 of the Barcelona Metro — the longest metro line in Europe, with 47.8 km of tunnel and a total length of 50.2 km — Sorigué was represented by its Chief Operating Officer, Sebastià Espinet; the General Manager of Construction and Engineering, Manuel Delgado; the Head of Civil Works in Catalonia, Jesús Gracia; and the Director of Procurement and Concessions, Juan Muntó, among other members of the company’s Construction division.
Mayors from the municipalities through which the new line runs also took part in the inauguration ceremony, including the Mayor of Barcelona, Ada Colau; the Mayor of L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, Núria Marín; and the Mayor of El Prat de Llobregat, Lluís Tejedor.
With a budget of €2.899 billion, this project is considered one of the most significant infrastructure works carried out in Catalonia in the last decade. It also fulfills one of Barcelona’s long-standing demands: extending the metro network to the airport and improving mobility across the metropolitan area. The inaugurated section of Line 9 — the first line to operate with driverless trains — connects Fira de Barcelona with El Prat Airport in approximately 30 minutes.
The construction project
The complex infrastructure of Line 9 has been one of the driving forces of public works in Catalonia in recent years, involving dozens of construction and engineering companies.
Sorigué, through its company Acsa, Obras e Infraestructuras, S.A.U., has participated from a dual perspective: on the one hand, as a partner in the Tramo II concessionaire, responsible for the construction, maintenance and operation of the infrastructures of this section of Lines 9 and 10; and, on the other hand, through the execution of stations and tunnels.
Specifically, this work was carried out through the Gorg consortium (Dragados, Acciona, Comsa and Acsa) and the Llobregat Stations consortium (Dragados, Comsa and Acsa), which were responsible for the construction of the stations at Zona Universitària, Camp Nou, Collblanc, Torrassa, Gornal, Fira, Parc Logístic and Mercabarna.
All of these stations belong to the section that runs through the cities of Barcelona, L’Hospitalet and El Prat de Llobregat.
