Sorigué will manufacture ring segments for the new access to the Barcelona Airport

March 31, 2017

In April of this year, production will begin at La Plana del Corb industrial complex, of 1,900 ring segments for the access tunnel to terminal 1 at the airport.

Sorigué will be responsible for the construction of the segments that will line the access tunnel to terminal 1 of the local commuter train network at the El Prat Airport in Barcelona.

On Thursday, 30 March, the master segment was put in place for the start of segment production in the prefabricated reinforced concrete plant owned by Sorigué in the La Plana del Corb Industrial Complex in Balaguer, Lleida.

Continuous production will begin around the middle of April and will end next December. Some 1,900 ring segments will be built, each of them 32 cm thick, to line one of the galleries of the tunnel, which is almost 3 kilometers long and 9.6 meters in diameter.

They will be made, among other materials, of aggregates from the Sorigué quarries located in the same industrial complex. They will be transported to Barcelona by the corporate group’s own transport company.

The construction of this new segment of the Barcelona suburban train system, which will serve terminal 1 of the El Prat airport, will be under the direction of a consortium consisting of the Sacyr, Ferrovial, and Copcisa companies.
