Sorigué becomes a patron of ITeC

February 19, 2018

The business group joins the patronage program for the Instituto de Tecnología de la Construcción de Catalunya, a leading organization in the industry.

This month, Sorigué became a sponsor of the Instituto de Tecnología de la Construcción de Catalunya (ITeC), a leading institution in the world of construction in Catalonia. It was created in 1978 and its patrons include professional schools, administrations, universities and businesses.

ITeC is currently seeking to use digitalization and technological innovation as tools to transform the industry.  Throughout its long history, the organization has created several instruments to address various market needs, published over 600 books, organized the first rehabilitation sessions in Spain in 1983, carried out the first censuses for businesses in the sector in the ‘80s, and created the protocols for diagnosis and remedy of construction diseases in the ‘90s.

Among these contributions, one of the most utilized is the Banco Estructurado de Datos de Elementos Constructivos [Structured Data Bank of Building Components] (BEDEC), which was created in 1983 and is currently the most viewed digital resource specializing in construction in Catalonia. It contains nearly a million building components. Visitors can see the prices of these components, as well as their usage conditions, the regulations that affect them, and their environmental impact. A library of BIM objects is currently being incorporated into the data bank.

The BEDEC data bank is also part of the TCQ methodology used to manage the building process. The tool was designed to minimize the risks associated with projects undertaken for the Barcelona Olympics in 1992.

Since 2004, the BEDEC data bank has provided basic information that allows planners to predict the quantity and type of waste that will be produced by each project, as well as to estimate the energy used and emissions generated by the building solutions they have chosen.

To facilitate the transition to eco-design, IteC launched a specific portal for environmental information on products and systems in 2016. It contains useful parameters that may be used for both the project and lifecycle analyses.

In 2015, the Institute created the Comisión Construimos el Futuro, a forum made up of 50 public and private entities that promotes a paradigm shift in the construction industry.
